William Hill Scottish Cup Final

Celtic 2-0 Motherwell

McGregor 11

Ntcham 25

Celtic got a 2-0 win over Motherwell to win the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park today.

First half goals from Callum McGregor and Olivier Ntcham sealed the win for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

A win for Celtic would seal the Scottish treble for the second consecutive season while Motherwell were hoping to win the Scottish Cup for the first time in 27 years.

Celtic started the game well and came close just six minutes in when Thomas Rogic’s effort on the edge of the box went just wide of the mark.

The East Glasgow side had the lead just five minutes later when defender Tom Aldred headed the ball away poorly and McGregor fired home in the top-left corner.

Just 14 minutes later, Celtic doubled their lead when a winger got past the Motherwell defence with ease and Ntcham buried the ball home in the bottom left corner.

Motherwell’s only chance of the half came in the 28th minute when Curtis Main fired over the bar following Carl McHugh’s backheel.

The Well made a much better start to the second half and came close three minutes in when Main’s effort was well saved by Craig Gordon following Liam Grimshaw’s impressive run.

Celtic came close again in the 66th minute when James Forrest put a good ball in towards Moussa Dembélé but his effort went wide.

Up at the other end moments later, Gaël Bigirimana came close following another great run from Grimshaw. The substitute’s effort was excellently blocked by Dedryck Boyata however.

Five minutes later, Motherwell keeper Trevor Carson made two excellent stops to deny a header and then a shot from Dembélé in quick succession.

Motherwell came very close to getting back into the game in the 80th minute when Bigirimana’s excellent free kick hit the crossbar.

The Well continued to push in the final ten minutes of the game and they almost triggered an exciting finish when in the 87th minute Chris Cadden headed just over on the end of Ryan Bowman’s impressive cross.

Celtic managed to hold on though, to complete the double treble under Brendan Rodgers.
