Bamber Bridge 0-3 Morecambe
Kenyon 48
Stockton 78,86

Morecambe commenced their pre-season with a comfortable victory over Evo-Stik League Divison 1 North side Bamber Bridge on Tuesday night.

Jim Bentley’s side, which consisted of five trialists in the first half, started the game well and Aaron Wildig came very close early on with an impressive shot which hit the crossbar.

Morecambe controlled possession in the early stages, looking more likely to take the lead, although Bamber Bridge did have some minor chances.

Roughly ten minutes later the Shrimps had another major chance with trialist Daniel Agyei hitting the post from close range.

In the 22nd minute the young Burnley striker had another major chance to score, as he attempted to round the keeper but unfortunately for him he was unsuccessful.

Bamber Bridge went on to have a period where they looked like scoring, and Curtis Thompson tested Roche with a powerful shot that was tipped over the bar by the veteran shot-stopper.

There wasn’t much to mention in the next fifteen minutes, but then Kevin Ellison came very close just before half time. In the 41st minute, the 37 year-old found himself in space on the left hand side and had a good shot well saved by Marcus Burgess to his right. The two sides went in on level terms at the break.

At half time Morecambe made ten changes, with Ryan Edwards the only Shrimps player not to be substituted.

Bentley’s side made an excellent start to the second half with Alex Kenyon taking the lead for the Shrimps three minutes in, with an intended cross that suffered a massive deflection off the Bamber Bridge defence.

Five minutes later the visitors came close again with a trialist forward making a good run before shooting straight at the keeper.

For around fifteen minutes, the game was fairly evenly matched with neither sides really having chances, although Morecambe’s trialist keeper was forced into making an impressive save from Curtis Thompson who struck another powerful shot similar to the one in the first half.

The Shrimps then doubled their lead in the 78th minute when Tranmere loanee Cole Stockton scored with a shot that deflected slightly off a Bamber Bridge defender on its way in.

Stockton then had a second goal four minutes from time, slotting home from close range off the end of an Alex Kenyon cross.

The away side could’ve made it four through Lee Molyneux shortly before the end but it wasn’t enough to really test the impressive Marcus Burgess in the Bamber Bridge goal.

The game finished 3-0 to the Shrimps, and they will face Bury and Blackburn in a mini-tournament at the Globe Arena on Saturday.
