Hebburn Town picked up their first league win in four games with an epic 4-3 victory over bottom club Penrith in the Northern League Division 1.

Will Paul took an early lead for the hosts before being pegged back with goals from Michael Richardson (2) and Louis Storey.

Penrith responded with goals from Martyn Coleman and Jonny Murray but then Gary Shaw grabbed the points for the visitors at the end in a thriller of a game.

The Cumbrian side came into the game searching for their first win of the season after a torrid season which has seen them trailing throughout.

They started really well when Paul fired home in the top-right corner just five minutes in.

Their lead lasted just 12 minutes however as Richardson continued his great form – curling the ball past the keeper to the right.

Ten minutes later, the former South Shields man put his side in front when he slotted home from close range after a great ball from Jack Robson on the right.

Luke Sullivan could’ve made it three when his excellent effort was pushed to the right by keeper Tom Fowler.

After a testing first half, the Hornets made a great start to the second half and almost extended their lead in the 51st minute after a series of shots in quick succession but they couldn’t beat the keeper.

Five minutes later, captain Storey broke the deadlock when he headed home on the end of a cracking ball forward from a free kick.

Penrith pulled one back when Coleman struck well after a poorly defended corner – taking a deflection off the defence on its way in.

In the 68th minute, Paul nearly got his second of the day when his effort went just wide after some poor defending from Hebburn.

The hosts’ hard work paid off when substitute Murray finished excellently with a stunning shot to beat Jennison to the right.

10 minutes laterm Hebburn snatched a winner through Shaw, who recently re-signed from Ryhope Colliery Welfare, with a right-footed shot finding its way through the defence in the bottom-right corner.
