Buildbase FA Trophy Final
AFC Fylde 1-0 Leyton Orient
AFC Fylde won the FA Trophy at Wembley with a narrow victory over Leyton Orient.
Danny Rowe’s second half goal separated the two sides.
AFC Fylde came into the game off the back of a defeat to Salford City last week in the National League Promotion Final, while Leyton Orient came into the game as National League champions.
It was a fairly even start to the game, and the first real opportunity fell for Fylde in the 18th minute when Nick Haughton fired into the side-netting.
Fylde came close again two minutes later when Alex Reid’s close-range effort was saved by Dean Brill.
Leyton Orient’s first real chance came in the 38th minute when Josh Koroma’s effort went just over the bar.
In the 43rd minute, the Coasters wasted a big chance when Danny Rowe squared it to Andrew Bond who fired over despite the open goal in front of him.
Five minutes into the second half, Orient came incredibly close when Jordan Maguire-Drew’s free kick hit the post.
The East London side had another incredibly close chance in the 57th minute when Marvin Ekpiteta headed against the post following a corner.
Fylde took the lead against the run of play three minutes later when Rowe’s free kick looped over the wall into the top-left corner.
Leyton Orient could’ve equalised in the 70th minute when Joe Widdowson’s effort hit the post before Maguire-Drew’s rebound was blocked by the offside Matt Harrold.
Seven minutes later, Justin Edinburgh’s side were left frustrated once again when Maguire-Drew fired wide following Jobi McAnuff’s cross.
Chances were few and far between after that, and Fylde held on for the win.
