Barrow 2-0 Morecambe

Harrison 61

Kay 84

Morecambe slipped to their second pre-season defeat with a 2-0 loss to Barrow last night.

Byron Harrison opened the scoring for the hosts in the 61st minute before Josh Kay’s goal doubled their lead just over 20 minutes later.

Both Ian Evatt and Jim Bentley named strong sides, meaning on paper it would be an entertaining game.

Morecambe started the game well and came close in the 12th minute when Jordan Cranston’s effort was just pushed wide following a good cross from Adam Buxton on the right.

Rhys Oates then came close on two occasions for the visitors, but he was stopped one-on-one with the keeper both times.

Chances were few and far between for the rest of the half, so it was goalless at half time.

Barrow were much improved in the second half, and came close in the 53rd minute when Oliver Greaves cut through on the left only for his shot to be kept out by Barry Roche.

Four minutes later at the other end, Alex Kenyon had a volley saved for the Shrimps.

In the 61st minute, the hosts took the lead when Harrison beat Roche to the ball and his effort came off the post on its way in.

Five minutes later, Morecambe fans thought they’d got an equaliser when substitute Lamin Jagne came close, only for his shot to go into the side netting.

In the 83rd minute, Barrow substitute Dior Angus had a shot saved by the legs of Roche and shortly afterwards Evatt’s side doubled their lead when Kay buried it in the bottom-right corner from the edge of the box.

Chances were few and far between after that, and Barrow held on for the win.
