Morecambe 0-1 Swindon Town

Adebayo 26

Pressure is mounting on Morecambe manager Jim Bentley after his side picked up their sixth defeat from seven league games today with a 1-0 loss at home to ten-man Swindon Townin League 2.

The Shrimps made two changes from the side that lost to Bury last week, with Vadaine Oliver and A-Jay Leitch-Smith coming in for Jason Oswell and Carlos Mendes Gomes.

The hosts started the game well and came close 14 minutes in when Oliver headed just over following Aaron Wildig’s cross.

However just eight minutes later, Swindon came incredibly close when Marc Richards suddenly had the ball six-yards out only for him to put the ball wide.

Phil Brown’s side then took the lead in the 26th minute when Adebayo had the ball in space on the right and beat Barry Roche to his left when one-on-one.

Just ten minutes later, the visitors were down to ten men as right-back Kyle Knoyle was sent off for a horrific challenge on Wildig.

It was all Morecambe for the rest of the half, and they came incredibly close in injury time when Liam Mandeville’s powerful effort following Luke Conlan’s cross brought about a great save to the right from Luke McCormick.

The hosts were straight out of the blocks in the second half, and came close in the 56th minute when Leitch-Smith fired into the side-netting after a great run.

However, the game died down and Swindon almost got another in the 72nd minute when Adebayo’s shot was saved by the legs of Roche.

Roche saved the Shrimps again just moments later when Steve Old gave the ball to substitute Jermaine McGlashan, but the keeper beat him to it before he could make a shot.

Morecambe played four up top for much of the final 15 minutes, and came close in the 82nd minute when Wildig could only only hit it straight at the keeper following Oliver’s header to him.

Wildig came close again four minutes later but his shot on the edge of the box was straight at McCormick.

The Shrimps’ biggest chance of the second half came when substitute Joe Piggott’s diving header was saved by the keeper before Jason Oswell was just beaten to the rebound.

Substitute Ellis Iandolo was twice denied by Roche right at the very end, but it didn’t matter as Swindon still came away with their first away win of the season.
