Jarrow Roofing picked up their first win in seven games against Seaham Red Star in the Northern League last night (Friday 10 November).

Oliver Martin scored a 17-minute hat-trick in the second half to separate the two sides.

Seaham Red Star came into the game three games unbeaten, with a win potentially taking them up to 7th.

It was quite an evenly matched first half, but Martin put the ball away past Jordan Harkess for the hosts in the 16th minute only for his goal to be ruled offside.

17 minutes later, Jarrow Roofing came close when Lee Kerr’s powerful half-volley went just wide.

Seaham had a golden opportunity on the brink of half time, when Alex Ramshaw played in Thomas Scott but his effort went over the bar.

It took only five minutes for the hosts to take the lead in the second half when Martin found the ball in space and buried it past Harkess.

The striker then doubled his side’s lead following a defensive error, capitalising Bradley Staunch’s mistake to slot the ball in the bottom-left.

Robbie Bird made a cracking run for the visitors in the 57th minute, and his effort was blocked out for a corner by the defence.

It was Martin for the home side causing all the problems however, his powerful strike forcing a brilliant save from Harkess in the 66th minute.

Moments later, the striker made a great run on the left unopposed and he slotted the ball past the keeper at the far post for his hat-trick.

Seaham’s chances were limited towards the end of the game, as Staunch headed straight at the keeper on the end of a corner in the 70th minute and Robbie Bird’s effort four minutes later went wide.

Kerr had two excellent free kicks for the hosts denied by the keeper and then the post, shortly before they were awarded a penalty on the brink of full time.

Lee Chapman brought a forward down just inside the box, and Liam Anderson stepped up only to be denied by Harkess leaving the visitors with a bit of comfort at the end.

The result sees Jarrow Roofing remain in 19th but level on points with Newton Aycliffe, with a game in hand, while Seaham remain in 9th ahead of their next game at Darlington RA in the League Cup on Wednesday.

Speaking after the game, Seaham joint-manager Chris McCabe said: “I’m very disappointed. A few of the players have let themselves down tonight with their individual performances.

“They know that now, I’ve just had a little word with them in the changing room. We’ve just got to pick ourselves up again on Wednesday at Darlington RA away.”
