Seaham Red Star shared the points with Ashington at the Ferguson Motor Repairs stadium in the Northern League Division 1 today.

Debutant Dylan McGlade opened the scoring for the hosts nine minutes in, but Ashington equalised with a Tony Stephenson penalty four minutes into the second half.

McGlade, on loan from Blyth Spartans, made his first start for Seaham while Bailey Prudhoe made his home debut having featured for the first time on Tuesday.

Ashington came into the game off the back of a 1-1 draw, sitting three places below their opposition in 12th.

The visitors started well as Shaun Henderson fired just over the bar seven minutes in.

Just moments later, Seaham took the lead however when Robbie Bird pounced on a loose ball and played in McGlade who rounded the keeper and slotted home comfortably.

McGlade nearly repeated his antics in the 31st minute when Thomas Price played a good through-ball to him and he rounded Conor Grant again only for his effort to go wide.

Ashington had a big penalty shout five minutes later when Callum Johnston appeared to be brought down by keeper Jordan Harkess but the referee gave nothing.

Seaham then nearly doubled their lead in the 40th minute when Bailey Prudhoe was one-on-one with the keeper but his effort was blocked.

The visitors started the better side in the second half as Johnston headed wide from a pinpoint cross two minutes in.

They were awarded a penalty shortly afterwards when Aaron Croft brought down a forward in the box, and substitute Stephenson buried it in the bottom-left corner to equalise.

Seaham debutant McGlade showed his class once again in the 68th minute when his long-range strike hit the crossbar, however it was end-to-end stuff as Ashington had a chance cleared off the line after some poor goalkeeping from Harkess.

The hosts almost won the game in added time when Prudhoe beat the full back on the right, but his effort was blocked by a defender.

The result sees Ashington move up to 11th while Seaham remain in 9th.

Speaking after the match Seaham joint-manager Chris McCabe said: “We weren’t at our best today, so a draw was probably a fair result. We’ve gifted them a point by needlessly giving a penalty away but I thought overall it was a fair result in the end.”
