EBAC Northern League Division 1
Seaham Red Star 1-5 North Shields
McBryde 6 Bainbridge 14,64 Carr 8,73 Luccock 89
Braces from Gareth Bainbridge and Ryan Carr grabbed them the bragging-rights at the Fergus Motors Stadium last night as Seaham Red Star sunk to a heavy defeat to in-form North Shields.
Seaham did take the lead through Liam McBryde six minutes in, but North Shields were undoubtedly better in every department as they responded with five goals during the course the game, with the fifth coming from substitute James Luccock on the brink of full time.
The game got off to an eventful start with underdogs Seaham taking the lead six minutes in through Liam McBryde, who latched onto a great ball from the left – netting from close range.
Their lead only lasted two minutes though thanks to some poor Seaham defending -handing Ryan Carr the ball on a plate to equalise from close range.
North Shields looked a very confident side, and in the 14th minute they hit the hosts on the break and Gareth Bainbridge soon had his first of the night heading home from close -range to take the lead.
Seaham were still in the game at this point though, and Liam McBryde almost got the hosts back on level terms six minutes later but his one-on-one effort was pushed wide by keeper Kyle Hayes.
Chris McCabe’s side were still in with a chance at the half-way stage, but this chance was completely taken away from them in the second half.
Gareth Bainbridge had his second of the night in the 64th minute, hijacking Bradley Staunch’s poor pass-back, and beating Harkess one-on-one to extend his side’s lead.
Nine minutes later, North Shields’ lead was extended even further when right-back Ryan Carr had his second of the night for the visitors.
Carr’s powerful effort from long-range beat keeper Harkess and this meant two players were on a hat-trick for North Shields.
Substitute James Luccock stole the glory at the end however, as he added a fifth in the 89th minute.
Lee Mason made a good run through the defence, and Bainbridge was free at the far post but he gifted the ball to Luccock and putting the ball away wasn’t a problem for him on what was a depressing night for Seaham Red Star fans.
Last night’s result means North Shields move to top of the Division 1 table, as Seaham drop to 10th ahead of their next fixture away to Dunston UTS.
