Evans 53              Butcher 45+2

Mugabi 71

Yeovil picked up their first win in nine games with a 3-1 victory over Morecambe at the Globe Arena this afternoon. Matt Butcher opened the scoring with an impressive strike just before half time, and Antony Evans equalised for Morecambe eight minutes into the second half. Further Yeovil goals from Alex Lacey and Bevis Mugabi sealed the win for the visitors later in the half.

Both sides started the game reasonably well. Morecambe had the first chance of the game with Kevin Ellison on the receiving end of a good ball from Michael Duckworth, – but he could only shoot straight at the keeper. Yeovil came very close to scoring two minutes later, when Ben Whitfield’s shot was pushed away by Roche before Bevis Mugabi’s header from the resultant corner was tipped over the bar.

In the eleventh minute Paul Mullin came close for Morecambe, connecting well from an impressive cross from the left only for his header to go straight into the hands of the keeper, – who just managed to keep the ball behind the line.

The game was rather scrappy for some of the first half, with little chances coming. The Shrimps’ next chance came in the 27th minute, with some good build up play from Antony Evans- only for the chance to go begging with Paul Mullin shooting straight at the keeper.

Shortly afterwards Yeovil came close, with Tom Eaves heading just wide on the end of a good cross coming from the right.

Morecambe came close on the brink of half time, with Lee Molyneux cutting inside from the left but his shot was met with a good save from Artur Krysiak.

Two minutes into added time Yeovil took the lead through Matt Butcher. Tom Eaves had a shot blocked by the defence, and the ball fell to Butcher who caught Roche off his line- lobbing him from around thirty yards out. The away side led 1-0 at half time.

Two minutes into the second half, Whitfield shot just wide for the away side whilst Molyneux had a shot parried away by the keeper just moments later at the other end.

Paul Mullin found himself through on goal in the 52nd minute only for him to shoot straight at the keeper. Moments later he made up for this- cutting through from the right and having a shot at the keeper which was saved, before Antony Evans netted home the rebound to put the Shrimps back on level terms.

Yeovil were back in front just thirteen minutes later, after some poor defending from the Shrimps. Ryan Edwards failed to clear his lines, instead gifting the ball to Alex Lacey who slotted home from a yard out.

Roche was forced to make a cracking diving save to his left to keep out Zoko’s acrobatic shot in the 71st minute, and before we knew it Yeovil had scored a third thanks to Bevis Mugabi’s easy header from the resultant corner.

It could’ve been 4-1 a few minutes later as Dawson hit the post for the visitors, before Zoko missed an open net- hitting the ball well over the bar.

Yeovil continued to impress in the final ten minutes, piling on the pressure whilst Morecambe stumbled. Matt Butcher almost had his second goal of the afternoon, but his long range shot was saved by Roche to his right before Tom Eaves shot wide in an effort where he should’ve done much better.

Yeovil’s victory means that they sit in 17th on 43 points in League 2, whilst the Shrimps remain in 15th with 46 points. Up next for the Shrimps is Newport at home on Tuesday night, whilst Yeovil face Barnet away from home on Wednesday.
