Morecambe 1-2 Newport County
Miller 60 Boden 1,69
Morecambe slumped to their third consecutive defeat in League 2, as they lost 2-1 to Welsh side Newport County.
Newport took the lead very early on as they were gifted a goal, with Morecambe failing to defend what appeared to be a poor corner and Scott Boden slotting home in the first minute of the game.
Morecambe could’ve equalised almost instantly however when Kevin Ellison had a shot deflected on to the crossbar by a defender, and then his header from the corner hit the cross bar.
In the twelfth minute, the Shrimps had another excellent chance to equalise when Tom Barkhuizen was clean through on goal. His shot was saved by the feet of Mitchell Beeney, and then Jamie Devitt had a shot that was cleared off the line. Jim Bentley’s side were looking threatening at this point in the game.
Neither side were very threatening for most of the first half however, with both sides having poor spells of play. The visitors went in leading at the break.
Kevin Ellison had Morecambe’s first chance in the second half, when his shot was saved comfortably by Beeney in the Newport goal.
Ten minutes later Morecambe equalised through Shaun Miller, who hit a stunning shot from long range surprising everyone in the ground as it didn’t look like it was coming.
Devitt then had a big chance to put the hosts in front in the 67th minute, when he hit a powerful shot just wide. However, Newport then took the lead two minutes later through Scott Boden who got on the end of a brilliant cross to score his second goal of the game.
Kevin Ellison found himself in some threatening positions, and had two shots almost identical to each other in the 80th and 87th minute respectively with both going just wide of the goal.
Despite five minutes of added time, Morecambe failed to put enough pressure on the visitors and Warren Feeney’s side held on to take the three points back to South Wales.
